How to convert TXT to Premiere JSON

Convert a timestamped TXT transcript from Rev, Otter, Descript or Word into Premiere Pro static transcript JSON. CutConvert maps your speakers and timings into the format the Premiere Text panel imports. You can then edit by transcript and build captions.

  1. Add your transcript

Drag your timestamped .txt transcript onto the drop zone, or click to browse.

  2. Convert TXT to Premiere JSON

Press Convert. CutConvert keeps speaker turns and word-level timing as it builds the JSON.

  3. Download your result

Download the converted file, or one ZIP when you convert a batch.

TXT transcript and Premiere JSON, explained

Premiere Pro's text-based editing reads a specific transcript JSON format. Add the export from your transcription service and download a file Premiere can import. You don't paste anything into the Text panel by hand.

Turn timestamped text transcripts into Premiere Pro transcript JSON with speaker records and word-level timing. It is free to start, encrypted in transit, and converts a whole batch into one ZIP — sign in when you need large, high-volume jobs.

TXT to Premiere JSON FAQ

Which transcript TXT formats does this accept?

Timestamped TXT transcripts from services like Rev, Otter and Descript, plus Word-style transcript text. If the file has timestamps and speaker labels, CutConvert can map it into Premiere transcript JSON.

Are speaker labels and timing preserved?

Yes. CutConvert keeps speaker turns and word-level timing as it builds the JSON. The transcript opens in Premiere with speakers and timings intact.

How do I get the JSON into Premiere Pro?

Import it as a transcript in Premiere Pro's Text panel. The output uses the static transcript JSON format that the panel reads for text-based editing. You can then edit by transcript, search the dialogue and build captions.

My transcript is a Word document, not TXT. What should I use?

Use the DOC to Premiere JSON converter at /doc/json instead. It reads .docx and .doc transcripts directly and outputs the same Premiere transcript JSON.

Is this free?

Free to start. Guests get 5 conversions a month, up to 100 KB per file. A free account has no monthly cap within the free size caps and converts up to 100 files per batch. Pro is $9 a month for 100 conversions of files up to 50 MB.

Questions, answered

Where are my files processed?

In your browser. The file never leaves your computer, and CutConvert only records that a conversion happened. We never see, store, sell or share your media.

Is it free? Do I need an account?

Files up to about an hour of footage convert free on every converter. CapCut projects are free up to 500 KB. Guests get five conversions a month; a free account has no monthly cap within the free size caps. Bigger files are $3 each, or $5 for a project conversion from one program to another. Pro is $9 a month ($90 a year) for files up to 50 MB. Studio is $19 a month ($190 a year) for files up to 500 MB.

What do I get when I convert multiple files?

One ZIP with every converted file. A single file comes back on its own. Press + to add more output formats: they go in the same ZIP, and each file still counts as one conversion.

Which formats are supported?

Projects in: Premiere .prproj, DaVinci Resolve .drp, Avid AAF and bins, Final Cut FCPXML, CapCut drafts and Audition sessions. Projects out: FCP7 XML, FCPXML, Resolve .drp, AAF, CapCut and REAPER, plus CMX 3600 EDL and shot-list CSV. Transitions, markers, titles, keyframes, levels, speed changes and nested sequences carry over wherever the target app can hold them. Transcripts: Whisper, WhisperX, AssemblyAI, Deepgram, Rev.ai and CapCut JSON, Premiere transcript JSON and .prtranscript, and Rev, Otter and Word-style text. Can I pick a frame rate?

Yes. For EDL and Avid caption output, choose 23.976, 24, 25, 29.97 or 30 fps, or let CutConvert detect it from your source.
