How to convert Premiere Transcript to SRT

Convert a Premiere Pro .prtranscript (static transcript JSON) into SRT subtitles. CutConvert reads the segments, words and speaker turns from your Premiere transcript and writes a timed .srt. Use it to get captions out of Premiere's text-based editing.

  1. Add your .prtranscript / JSON

Drag your exported Premiere transcript (.prtranscript or static transcript .json) onto the drop zone, or click to browse.

  2. Convert to SRT

Press Convert. CutConvert turns each transcript segment into a standards-compliant SRT cue and keeps its timing.

  3. Download your result

Download the converted file, or one ZIP when you convert a batch.

Premiere transcript and SRT subtitles, explained

Premiere Pro's text-based editing stores transcripts as a static transcript JSON (the .prtranscript spec). The format works inside Premiere, but other tools can't use it. This converter turns it back into SRT so you can caption, share or reuse it anywhere.

Premiere Transcript to SRT FAQ

Can I just rename .prtranscript to .srt?

No. A .prtranscript is Premiere's static transcript JSON, not subtitle text, and its structure is nothing like SRT. This converter reads the segments, words and speaker turns and writes a timed .srt.

What exactly is a .prtranscript file?

It is how Premiere Pro's text-based editing stores transcripts, as a static transcript JSON that follows the .prtranscript spec. Other tools can't use it, so converting to SRT is the practical way to get captions out.

Is the timing preserved in the SRT?

Yes. Each transcript segment becomes a standards-compliant SRT cue with its original timing, so the subtitles line up with your edit.

What if I need WebVTT for a web player instead?

Use the Premiere transcript to VTT converter at /prtranscript/vtt. It maps the same transcript segments to WebVTT cues for HTML5 <track> elements and web players.

What does it cost?

Free to start. Guests get 5 conversions a month, up to 500 KB per file. A free account has no monthly cap within the free size caps and converts up to 100 files per batch. Pro is $9 a month for 100 conversions of files up to 50 MB.

Guides for this workflow

Questions, answered

Where are my files processed?

In your browser. The file never leaves your computer, and CutConvert only records that a conversion happened. We never see, store, sell or share your media.

Is it free? Do I need an account?

Files up to about an hour of footage convert free on every converter. CapCut projects are free up to 500 KB. Guests get five conversions a month; a free account has no monthly cap within the free size caps. Bigger files are $3 each, or $5 for a project conversion from one program to another. Pro is $9 a month ($90 a year) for files up to 50 MB. Studio is $19 a month ($190 a year) for files up to 500 MB.

What do I get when I convert multiple files?

One ZIP with every converted file. A single file comes back on its own. Press + to add more output formats: they go in the same ZIP, and each file still counts as one conversion.

Which formats are supported?

Projects in: Premiere .prproj, DaVinci Resolve .drp, Avid AAF and bins, Final Cut FCPXML, CapCut drafts and Audition sessions. Projects out: FCP7 XML, FCPXML, Resolve .drp, AAF, CapCut and REAPER, plus CMX 3600 EDL and shot-list CSV. Transitions, markers, titles, keyframes, levels, speed changes and nested sequences carry over wherever the target app can hold them. Transcripts: Whisper, WhisperX, AssemblyAI, Deepgram, Rev.ai and CapCut JSON, Premiere transcript JSON and .prtranscript, and Rev, Otter and Word-style text. Styling, placement and speakers come along where the output supports them.

Can I pick a frame rate?

Yes. For EDL and Avid caption output, choose 23.976, 24, 25, 29.97 or 30 fps, or let CutConvert detect it from your source.
