How to convert CSV to SRT

Convert CSV to SRT online. CutConvert reads a spreadsheet of timed rows and writes numbered SRT subtitles from the start, end, speaker and text columns. It matches column names loosely, and timestamps can be clock times or plain seconds.

  1. Add your CSV file

Drag your .csv onto the drop zone. The header row tells the converter which columns are which.

  2. Convert CSV to SRT

Press Convert. Each row becomes a numbered SRT cue. Rows without a start time or text are skipped.

  3. Download your result

Download the converted file, or one ZIP when you convert a batch.

CSV rows and SRT subtitles, explained

Translation sheets, logging tools and localization exports all produce timed rows in CSV. This converter turns them back into playable subtitles. It finds the start, end, text and speaker columns from the header, so names like "in", "out", "caption" and "dialogue" work too. Timestamps can be clock times or plain seconds. The output is standard SRT.

Turn spreadsheet rows with start times and text into valid SRT subtitles, speakers included. It is free to start, encrypted in transit, and converts a whole batch into one ZIP — sign in when you need large, high-volume jobs.

CSV to SRT FAQ

What columns does the CSV need?

At minimum, a start-time column and a text column. End times and speakers are used when present. Header names are matched loosely: start/in/start time, end/out, text/caption/subtitle/dialogue, speaker/name.

What timestamp formats are accepted?

Clock stamps like 0:00:01.500 or 00:00:01,500, and plain seconds like 4.5. One file can mix formats, since each cell is parsed on its own.

Can I convert an Excel or Google Sheets file to SRT?

Yes. Save the sheet as CSV and drop that file here. In Google Sheets, use File, Download, Comma-separated values. In Excel, use Save As CSV. Keep one row per subtitle.

My CSV has no header row. Will it still convert?

Usually. The converter looks for a column of timestamps and takes the widest text column. It then tells you which columns it used, so you can reorder them if the guess was wrong.

What happens to rows without an end time?

The cue runs until just before the next cue starts. The final cue gets an estimated readable duration, the same rule used across CutConvert.

Where does a timed CSV usually come from?

Translation and QC sheets, subtitle spot lists, logging software, and this site's own SRT to CSV converter at /srt/csv. Edit in a spreadsheet, then convert back to SRT.

Is it free?

Free to start. Guests get 5 conversions a month, up to 100 KB per file. A free account has no monthly cap within the free size caps and converts up to 100 files per batch. Pro is $9 a month for 100 conversions of files up to 50 MB.

Questions, answered

Where are my files processed?

In your browser. The file never leaves your computer, and CutConvert only records that a conversion happened. We never see, store, sell or share your media.

Is it free? Do I need an account?

Files up to about an hour of footage convert free on every converter. CapCut projects are free up to 500 KB. Guests get five conversions a month; a free account has no monthly cap within the free size caps. Bigger files are $3 each, or $5 for a project conversion from one program to another. Pro is $9 a month ($90 a year) for files up to 50 MB. Studio is $19 a month ($190 a year) for files up to 500 MB.

What do I get when I convert multiple files?

One ZIP with every converted file. A single file comes back on its own. Press + to add more output formats: they go in the same ZIP, and each file still counts as one conversion.

Which formats are supported?

Projects in: Premiere .prproj, DaVinci Resolve .drp, Avid AAF and bins, Final Cut FCPXML, CapCut drafts and Audition sessions. Projects out: FCP7 XML, FCPXML, Resolve .drp, AAF, CapCut and REAPER, plus CMX 3600 EDL and shot-list CSV. Transitions, markers, titles, keyframes, levels, speed changes and nested sequences carry over wherever the target app can hold them. Captions: SRT, WebVTT, SBV, ASS, TTML, DFXP, iTT, SCC, MCC, EBU-STL, Avid caption TXT, timed CSV, Word and plain text. Transcripts: Whisper, WhisperX, AssemblyAI, Deepgram, Rev.ai and CapCut JSON, Premiere transcript JSON and .prtranscript, and Rev, Otter and Word-style text. Styling, placement and speakers come along where the output supports them.

Can I pick a frame rate?

Yes. For EDL and Avid caption output, choose 23.976, 24, 25, 29.97 or 30 fps, or let CutConvert detect it from your source.
