How to convert Premiere Pro to CapCut

Convert a Premiere Pro edit to a CapCut desktop project. Add the .prproj or an XML exported from Premiere. You get a ZIP with a CapCut project folder that keeps your cuts, speed, transforms, volume, fades, dissolves and titles.

  1. Export from Premiere Pro

Use the .prproj or an XML exported from Premiere. Pick the timeline you want if the project has several.

  2. Convert and unzip

The ZIP holds one CapCut project folder per timeline and a short note on where it goes.

  3. Open it in CapCut

Quit CapCut and move the folder into CapCut's projects folder. On a Mac that's ~/Movies/CapCut/User Data/Projects/com.lveditor.draft/. On Windows it's %LOCALAPPDATA%\CapCut\User Data\Projects\com.lveditor.draft\. Open CapCut and the project is on the home screen.

Premiere project and CapCut project, explained

CapCut can't import XML, AAF or project files from other editors, so CutConvert writes the CapCut project itself, in the format CapCut 9.5 saves. Video track 1 becomes CapCut's main track and higher tracks become overlays. Each clip plays its own sound, separate sound goes on audio tracks, and titles become CapCut text. Dissolves become CapCut's Mix transition at the same length. Effects, colour grades, adjustment layers and markers have no CapCut counterpart. The report lists what was left out.

CapCut can't import a .prproj, so this builds the CapCut project for you. Copy the folder into CapCut's projects folder and reopen CapCut. It is free to start, encrypted in transit, and converts a whole batch into one ZIP — sign in when you need large, high-volume jobs.

Premiere Pro to CapCut FAQ

Where does the folder go?

Into CapCut's projects folder. Mac: ~/Movies/CapCut/User Data/Projects/com.lveditor.draft/. Windows: %LOCALAPPDATA%\CapCut\User Data\Projects\com.lveditor.draft\. If you changed it in CapCut's settings, use yours. Quit CapCut first, because it lists new projects when it starts.

CapCut says media is missing.

The project points to each file where it was on the computer that made the edit. Click a missing clip, choose Relink and pick the file. CapCut finds the rest in the same folder.

Do effects and grades come across?

No. CapCut has its own effects and filters. Position, scale, rotation, opacity, crop, speed, volume and fades come across. The report names everything else.

Is it free?

Projects up to the free size cap convert free. A full-length project needs a one-time project conversion or a Pro plan.

Questions, answered

Where are my files processed?

In your browser. The file never leaves your computer, and CutConvert only records that a conversion happened. We never see, store, sell or share your media.

Is it free? Do I need an account?

Files up to about an hour of footage convert free on every converter. CapCut projects are free up to 500 KB. Guests get five conversions a month; a free account has no monthly cap within the free size caps. Bigger files are $3 each, or $5 for a project conversion from one program to another. Pro is $9 a month ($90 a year) for files up to 50 MB. Studio is $19 a month ($190 a year) for files up to 500 MB.

What do I get when I convert multiple files?

One ZIP with every converted file. A single file comes back on its own. Press + to add more output formats: they go in the same ZIP, and each file still counts as one conversion.

Which formats are supported?

Projects in: Premiere .prproj, DaVinci Resolve .drp, Avid AAF and bins, Final Cut FCPXML, CapCut drafts and Audition sessions. Projects out: FCP7 XML, FCPXML, Resolve .drp, AAF, CapCut and REAPER, plus CMX 3600 EDL and shot-list CSV. Transitions, markers, titles, keyframes, levels, speed changes and nested sequences carry over wherever the target app can hold them. Captions: SRT, WebVTT, SBV, ASS, TTML, DFXP, iTT, SCC, MCC, EBU-STL, Avid caption TXT, timed CSV, Word and plain text. Transcripts: Whisper, WhisperX, AssemblyAI, Deepgram, Rev.ai and CapCut JSON, Premiere transcript JSON and .prtranscript, and Rev, Otter and Word-style text. Styling, placement and speakers come along where the output supports them.

Can I pick a frame rate?

Yes. For EDL and Avid caption output, choose 23.976, 24, 25, 29.97 or 30 fps, or let CutConvert detect it from your source.
