Premiere Transcript to VTT FAQ

Can I just rename .prtranscript to .vtt?

No. A .prtranscript is Premiere's static transcript JSON, not caption text, so a rename won't work. This converter reads the transcript segments and writes a standards-compliant .vtt with millisecond timing.

Why convert a Premiere transcript to WebVTT?

WebVTT is the caption format for web video, including HTML5 <track> elements and streaming players. Converting turns the transcript you already made in Premiere into web captions with no manual retiming.

Do I need to retime anything after converting?

No. Each transcript segment becomes a WebVTT cue, and the millisecond timing comes from the transcript itself.

What if my player only accepts SRT?

Use the Premiere transcript to SRT converter at /prtranscript/srt. It turns the same static transcript JSON into timed SRT subtitles for anywhere SRT is accepted.

Is it free?

Where are my files processed?

In your browser. The file never leaves your computer, and CutConvert only records that a conversion happened. We never see, store, sell or share your media.

Is it free? Do I need an account?

Files up to about an hour of footage convert free on every converter. CapCut projects are free up to 500 KB. Guests get five conversions a month; a free account has no monthly cap within the free size caps. Bigger files are $3 each, or $5 for a project conversion from one program to another.
