How to convert SRT to Premiere JSON

To import SRT as a Premiere transcript, convert it to transcript JSON. Load the source clip in Premiere and use Import Static Transcript in the Text panel. This is a different path from importing SRT captions. SRT records only cue boundaries, so CutConvert estimates word timings within each cue. Check alignment against the source audio before text-based editing.

  1. Add your SRT files

Drag your .srt subtitle files onto the drop zone, or click to browse.

  2. Convert SRT to Premiere JSON

Press Convert. CutConvert keeps cue boundaries and estimates word timings within each cue. Check the result against your source audio.

  3. Download your result

Download the converted file, or one ZIP when you convert a batch.

SRT contains cue timing. Word timings are estimated within each cue, not recovered from audio. This is a transcript JSON, not a captions import.

Synthetic examples. Downloaded outputs are checked against the conversion engine; this does not certify an import in your editor version.

SRT file and Premiere JSON, explained

Premiere's transcript import reads transcript JSON. Its separate captions workflow can import SRT. This converter lets you reuse existing subtitle files for transcript import, search, and text-based editing.

Use timed subtitles as a Premiere transcript. Cue timing is kept, and word timings are estimated within each cue. It is free to start, encrypted in transit, and converts a whole batch into one ZIP — sign in when you need large, high-volume jobs.

SRT to Premiere JSON FAQ

Why can't Premiere Pro just import my SRT as a transcript?

Premiere's transcript import needs static transcript JSON. Its separate captions workflow can import SRT directly. This converter maps every SRT cue into transcript records, so the file imports as an editable transcript in the Text panel.

Is the subtitle timing preserved?

Cue boundaries, yes. SRT has no measured word timings, so CutConvert estimates the timing of each word within its cue. Check alignment against your audio before editing.

What can I do with the transcript once it is in Premiere?

Transcript import, search, and text-based editing. The subtitles become editable text in the Text panel, so you can cut by transcript instead of scrubbing the timeline.

Can I convert an SRT to a .prtranscript file?

Not to the binary .prtranscript itself. Premiere doesn't import that format for external transcripts, so a converter that wrote one would be useless. The supported route is static transcript JSON loaded with Import Static Transcript in the Text panel, which is what this page produces. In practice, this is the SRT to prtranscript conversion.

Can I convert a Premiere transcript back into SRT?

Yes. The Premiere transcript to SRT converter at /prtranscript/srt reads a .prtranscript (static transcript JSON) and writes timed SRT subtitles.

How much does it cost?

Free to start. Preview your file before converting. The converter shows your current allowance and any purchase a larger job needs. See Pricing for current plans and one-time options.

Guides for this workflow

Questions, answered

Where are my files processed?

In your browser. The file never leaves your computer, and CutConvert only records that a conversion happened. We never see, store, sell or share your media.

Is it free? Do I need an account?

Files up to about an hour of footage convert free on every converter. CapCut projects are free up to 500 KB. Guests get five conversions a month; a free account has no monthly cap within the free size caps. Bigger files are $3 each, or $5 for a project conversion from one program to another. Pro is $9 a month ($90 a year) for files up to 50 MB. Studio is $19 a month ($190 a year) for files up to 500 MB.

What do I get when I convert multiple files?

One ZIP with every converted file. A single file comes back on its own. Press + to add more output formats: they go in the same ZIP, and each file still counts as one conversion.

Which formats are supported?

Projects in: Premiere .prproj, DaVinci Resolve .drp, Avid AAF and bins, Final Cut FCPXML, CapCut drafts and Audition sessions. Projects out: FCP7 XML, FCPXML, Resolve .drp, AAF, CapCut and REAPER, plus CMX 3600 EDL and shot-list CSV. Transitions, markers, titles, keyframes, levels, speed changes and nested sequences carry over wherever the target app can hold them. Captions: SRT, WebVTT, SBV, ASS, TTML, DFXP, iTT, SCC, MCC, EBU-STL, Avid caption TXT, timed CSV, Word and plain text. Transcripts: Whisper, WhisperX, AssemblyAI, Deepgram, Rev.ai and CapCut JSON, Premiere transcript JSON and .prtranscript, and Rev, Otter and Word-style text. Styling, placement and speakers come along where the output supports them.

Can I pick a frame rate?

Yes. For EDL and Avid caption output, choose 23.976, 24, 25, 29.97 or 30 fps, or let CutConvert detect it from your source.
